For public battles its important to have balanced maps where no one side has the advantage. In planetary conquest however it does not make sense. Defenders own the surface infrastructure present on their districts, and logically they would set it up to give themselves an advantage. The placements of the null cannons, installations, and a selection of preset red-line boundaries should also be included. Giving corps the ability to control the locations of the surface infrastructure as well as other elements (red-line, etc) on their districts would give a better sense of who's attacking and defending, and reinforce the sense of ownership over the districts. This should be in the hands of CEOs and directors, or even a special corp role for this. Obviously there should be constraints so attackers still have a chance.
This would require a lot more sockets; enough to line up small surface infrastructure pieces to make walls. There should be many sockets which can be fitted for null cannons, so the defenders have a big selection of places to place their cannons. There should be many large sockets on maps to give lots of options on where to place options.

The PC burnout is yet another reason of why this is needed; constantly having to defend one's own territory every day burns players out fast, and makes the game no longer fun, but if we attacked/defended other people's stuff and picked our battles instead of clockwork mandatory battles, then that would not cause players to burnout. |
